I call this ring my "At the Seashore" Crab Ring because here in Pensacola, Florida, we are ALWAYS at the seashore. This design reminds me of all the wonderful treasures that wash up on the beach, all tangled together, waiting to be discovered.
I'm especially fond of the little Hill Tribes Silver crab bead, which inspired this design.
The ring band is solid sterling silver, forged into a coiled shape. The size CANNOT be adjusted; this ring is an 8 - 8 1/2. Of course, it may be worn with the crab either at the top or the bottom.
I used copper, brass, nickel silver, and dark copper-tinted wires, folded, coiled and curved, to create a mini bead-and-wire sculpture. There is a nice deep blue lapis bead, a hand-made art bead (in turquoise and royal blue), and an ocean jasper bead in mottled green. The lightly tinted crystal beads add to a beachy effect. In the second photo, you can better see the construction of the sterling silver ring band, and its hammered texture.
The whole bead collage is 3" long and 1" wide, so this ring makes quite a visual statement.
It is the ONLY one of its kind in the whole world; the advantage to owning a piece of hand crafted art jewelry is that YOUR special piece will never show up in a dozen catalogues of mass-produced jewelry!
